Performance Groups

1st Fridays on the Lawn – Bands & Intermission Acts

The City of Wilson – Human Relations Commission sponsors an annual concert series. The celebrations are held every first Friday of  July, August, September and  October. The concerts celebrate family fun and invite a variety of musical talent and local performance groups to entertain. The Human Relations Commission is always searching for community performance groups including bands, dancing, singing and other talents. Children and adult groups are welcomed!

Performance Bands -

Wilson community bands and the surrounding area are encouraged to apply for consideration as a performance band. The bands are needed to help create an upbeat, festive celebration that is family focused and reflects the diversity of Wilson. Music generes include rock, country, bluegrass, gospel, international, R&B, funk, jazz and more.

Each concert date one or two bands are selected to perform from 6 - 9 p.m. The variety of bands, availability and expenditures help determine the final line up.

With the wide selection of community talent, identifying only a handful of bands to perform each year is a difficult decision. Should a band not be selected for this year's line up they may reapply in the future and all information is retained for consideration at other events.

Contact the office regarding performance considerations.

Intermission Acts -

In addition to bands, each concert date also highlights community talent such as dance groups, demonstrations and performance acts.  Groups can be considered for a performance on the ground level dance floor during the intermission as bands switch on/off stage.  The intermission is approximately 30 minutes in which one or several groups may perform.

Intermission acts may also set up an informational booth to share with attendees more about their group, upcoming performances and membership opportunities.

Contact the office for performance availability and to recieve an Intermission Act appliation.
