Water Reclamation

The City of Wilson provides wastewater collection and treatment services for areas within the City corporate limits and many areas in the City's Extraterritorial Jurisdictional area. The City also treats wastewater from the Town of Black Creek, the Town of Lucama, and the Town of Sims.

The City's wastewater collection system is primarily designed for gravity flow and consists of approximately 300 miles of pipe mains ranging in diameter from 6 inches to 36 inches. These mains gradually increase in size to accommodate flow as the wastewater travels from homes, schools, and businesses to the wastewater treatment plant. Every day, an average of 9 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater flows through the collection system.

Although the wastewater collection system functions primarily by gravity, 21 public pump stations are necessary to lift the wastewater out of low lying areas on its way to the treatment plant. The pump stations range in capacity up to 28 MGD.
