The Position
NOTE: Currently, all positions are filled. Although there are no open positions at this time, all employment packets will be held for future openings. The deadline for employment packet submission for the fall 2013 Hiring process is August 1st 2013. All employment packets must be submitted by this date. Employment packets received after this date will be held for the spring 2014 hiring process.

Performs responsible protective service work in the prevention, detection, and investigation of violations of the law. Work involves an element of personal danger.
This position works an assigned shift.

The Selection Process
The process begins with a complete evaluation of the applications submitted. Only a limited number of persons determined to be most qualified, as reflected by the contents of their application, will be invited to a personal interview. The interview will cover the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of the vacant position. The applicant determined to best fit the needs of the position will be given a careful reference and thorough criminal background check, a drug test, and any required medical examinations that may be necessary.
How to Compete in the Process
Applicant must have knowledge of the methods, practices, rules, and regulations of a Police Department; and knowledge of the City’s geography and location of important buildings. Must have demonstrated the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; prepare clear, comprehensive reports; deal courteously, but firmly with the public; analyze situations and adopt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action with regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances. Applicant must also possess physical agility and endurance to perform assigned duties and develop skills in the use of firearms and operation of motor vehicles.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school, supplemented by technical level courses in Law Enforcement or related field may be accepted. A college degree is preferred. Applicant must possess a valid Drivers License, and meet the minimum requirements and qualifications prescribed in the Police Department's Career Development Program. Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification is preferred. Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is desired.
