JOB TITLE: SAFETY AND RISK COORDINATOR

JOB SUMMARY:  Manages general liability claims and employee safety program. Work involves extensive personal contact with claimants, medical providers, fellow employees and attorneys. An employee in this position is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative requiring technical skills and understanding of claims management.


MAJOR DUTIES: 
Coordinates, enforces and maintains employee safety and accident prevention programs, risk management, loss control and self-funded insurance program
Manages and monitors General Liability claims process
Coordinates, performs and tracks job site safety inspections/audits and monitors work practices to ensure compliance with OSHA safety regulations, city policies, state and federal laws; makes recommendations regarding safer work practices if necessary
Develops and administers safety inspection procedures; communicates occupational and health hazards and safety precautions to departmental staff
Works with Building Maintenance with issues involving City buildings and property
Makes recommendations for changes to meet legal standards, monitoring safety concerns within the city and enforcing OSHA, federal, state and local safety policies
Prepares, implements, and enforces safety policies and procedures.
Develops, coordinates and implements employee safety training programs and facilitates training sessions
Investigates accidents involving city employees and property to determine causes and prevent recurrence
Serves as primary contact for Key scan security access
Assist Risk Services Team members with compliance with various federal, state and local regulations and city policy related to safety and property.
Assists with Worker’s Compensation procedures in absence of Workers’ Compensation Coordinator. 
Writes medical service passes;
Processes bill payments via requests for check or accounting software.
Conducts Vehicle Accident Review Board Committee meetings and maintains records for the City of Wilson
Conducts Safety Committee meetings and maintains records for the City of Wilson
Obtains pre-hire driver’s license checks and follows up as appropriate
Answers telephone, takes messages, transfers and screens calls.
Provides communication channel between employees, supervisors, complainants, Risk Manager, nurses, physicians, insurance companies and attorneys
Assists with random drug and alcohol testing
Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This is light work requiring some exertion of force, lifting and moving of objects; Work involves field inspections, walking, standing, stooping, balancing and climbing; Position requires visual acuity for observation and inspection of work sites and procedures and for preparing and maintaining written and computer files and records and hearing sufficient to accurately perceive information at normal spoken work level; Position requires the ability to express and exchange ideas by the spoken word level. Employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Graduation from high school or equivalent with prior work in business management, municipal government , risk management, safety, personnel/financial management, insurance industry, legal or related field. Prior training experiences a plus. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in industrial safety, administration, and enforcement of safety programs with guidelines/regulations from OSHA and NC Department of Labor.
Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s License is required as well as North Carolina Self-Adjusters License maintained in good standing.
