JOB TITLE: PARKING / COURT COORDINATOR
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for enforcing parking ordinances and for coordinating court related activities for the department.
Operates a 3-wheel Cushman to mark vehicles and issues citations to vehicles in timed parking zones and metered spaces; reports faulty meters to meter technician.
Enters citations into computer.
Enters license plate numbers into DMV computer for ownership information; prints late notices and prepares for mailing.
Prints daily wheel-lock list for five time violators; places wheel locks upon appropriate automobiles.
Collects money from meters; counts and bags coins; deposits funds.
Works with the district attorney in the scheduling of cases; dispatches officers to court as they are needed.
Compiles a new court calendar every six months; makes copies of calendars and prints for distribution.
Process criminal history reports as requests by officers.
Prints weekly court dockets.
Prepares reports on civil cases.
Attends Parking Board meetings.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
Knowledge of city geography and related parking ordinances.
Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures.
Knowledge of court proceedings and the judicial process.
Skill in the operation of a computer and other modern office equipment.
Skill in operating a 3-wheel Cushman.
Skill in preparing reports and entering data.
Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Captain assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the city parking regulations and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related duties. Inclement weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the work.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to enforce parking ordinances and coordinate the department’s court activities. Successful performance assists in the provision of parking for citizens and visitors.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, merchants, police officers, magistrates, judges, and the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.

Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
