Winter Storm Updates

Post Date:01/28/2022 2:00 PM

The Customer Service Center will be closed on Saturday, January 28. RIDE will operate as long as conditions allow. Riders should expect delays if road conditions are poor.

We are closely monitoring this weekend's forecast. For now, we are preparing for rain on Friday evening turning to snow late Friday through Saturday morning.

High winds are expected as part of the storm. Wilson Energy crews are ready to respond to outages as needed. Now is a great time to check out our online outage monitoring and reporting tools at https://www.wilsonnc.org/residents/city-services/all-departments/wilson-energy/report-a-power-outage

We will keep residents informed of street conditions throughout the storm. Please plan to spend the next few hours preparing to be inside for a couple of days and not travel unless it’s absolutely necessary. We will have a street closure map posted online if needed, and urge you to check that if you must travel.

Temperatures will be below freezing for the next few days. To prevent pipes from freezing, cold water should be turned on to drip from any faucet served by exposed pipes. Running water through the pipe – even at a trickle – helps prevent pipes from freezing. If a house will be unoccupied during the next few days, the heat should be kept on set to a temperature no lower than 55° F.
