On Saturday, April 27th, Historic Downtown Wilson will celebrate its 2nd annual public art day. A collaboration between the Arts Council of Wilson, Eyes on Main Street, Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, and Wilson Downtown Development, the all-day event will showcase public art throughout the downtown. The community is invited to join us for a multitude of activities including Paint-A-Hydrant, Artsy Alleys, a jazz concert at the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park, and the launch of the 2019 Eyes on Main Street outdoor photo festival.
Ride a rickshaw or leisurely stroll along Nash and adjoining streets to view the expanding display of large storefront photos and exhibits from renowned photographers around the world as well as from Wilson schoolchildren. Cheer on the hydrant and alley teams creating authentic art to beautify the downtown streetscape. Spread a blanket on the park lawn and chill to the jazz sounds of the Thomas Taylor Sextet in the afternoon or take in a blues band later that evening in the 217 Brew Works beer garden. In addition to the public art, shop downtown galleries and boutiques to see the myriad assortment of art and artisan creations you will discover!
Restaurants, candy stores, food trucks, breweries, tap rooms and bottles shops will satisfy your cravings while you spend the day in Historic Downtown Wilson.
