Cast your line and reel in some great times at these local fishing spots.

Buckhorn Lake is the largest fishing spot near the city, covering more than 2,100 acres of water and land. You can fish from docks, shore or boat. The depth of the reservoir is around 25 feet at maximum, water clarity is 6-10 feet. Fishermen report catching bream, bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, white bass, catfish and rainbow trout.

Wiggins Mill Reservoir is also a popular place to fish. Many people try to catch bream, bluegill, catfish and bass from the shore or docks near the dam near U.S. 301. If you want to go out on the water, nonpowered boats and those with electric motors are allowed. The best times for fishing are reportedly mid- to late afternoon.

Lake Wilson offers great fishing for bream, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and bluegill. The best fishing may be near the dam near Lake Wilson Road, but people also fish along the shore.

Tar River Reservoir is only a short drive from Wilson and covers more than 1,600 acres. Fishermen report catching catfish, crappie, largemouth bass and sunfish.
