Memorial Day Service
The Wilson Committee on Patriotism will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. Monday in front of the Wilson County Courthouse. The public is invited.
Lance Corporal Duncan S. Mathis, a Marine who was wounded while serving in Afghanistan, will be the keynote speaker. He will be introduced by his mother, Theresa Mathis in the Wilson Human Relations Office.
The service will include the usual mix of patriotic music and observances. The chorus of Sallie B. Howard School, led by music teacher Manuel Martinez, will perform several songs. The junior ROTCs of Beddingfield, Fike and Hunt high schools will conduct flag rituals. Saxophonist Willie Dupree will perform the National Anthem.
The committee provides a hot dog lunch to veterans and their families following the service.
