Veterans Day Service

Please join us for the annual Veterans Day service on Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. in the plaza in front of the Wilson County Courthouse.

Local attorney Darryl Smith will be the guest speaker on an hour-long program of patriotic music and ceremonies organized by the Wilson County Committee on Patriotism to honor local veterans and active duty personnel.

New Hope Elementary School's Chorus, led by Director/Music Teacher Tasha Weatherington will perform several songs. The junior ROTCs of Beddingfield, Fike and Hunt high schools will conduct flag rituals. The National Anthem will be sung by Wilson Chapel FWBC's Youth Choir Singer Elijah Whitley.

The event will include a POW/MIA ceremony to be performed by Deborah Deaton, vice chair of the Patriotism Committee. Committee members will lay a wreath in honor of fallen veterans.

The event will conclude with a 21-gun salute by Wilson County's Veterans' Honor Guard, followed by the playing of “Taps” by Jerry Howell, American Legion Post 13.

The service is free and open to the public. It will be followed by a free hotdog lunch for veterans, their families and others in the audience.
