The Wilson Committee on Patriotism will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. Monday in front of the Wilson County Courthouse. The public is invited.
N.C. Rep. Linda Cooper-Suggs, District 24, N.C. House of Representatives, will be the keynote speaker.
The service will include the usual mix of patriotic music and observances. New Hope Elementary School chorus under the direction of music Tara Woodard will perform several songs. Torry Winston-Sanders of Wilson Chapel FWBC will sing the National Anthem.
The event will also include flag ceremonies involving the Junior ROTCs of Beddingfield, Hunt and Fike high schools; a welcome by Wilson Mayor Carlton Stevens; a POW/MIA service; placing of a wreath in honor of the county’s war dead; and prayers by James A. Faison, the committee’s chaplain.
The event concludes with a 21-gun salute and the playing of “Taps.”
The committee provides a hot dog lunch to veterans and their families following the service.
