CITY OF WILSON PARKS & RECREATION

Wilson Parks and Recreation is a nationally accredited agency through the Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA), which is part of the National Recreation Park Association (NRPA).

Mission

We strive to provide unsurpassed services and recreational activities to better enhance the quality of life of all citizens of our community with a central theme of growth, fitness, and recreation.

Vision

Our staff seeks to realize its mission by providing comprehensive services and programs through community involvement, marketing and education. This will enable us to create desirable places to play while promoting physical well-being and positive attitudes.

Purpose

The Wilson Parks and Recreation Department’s purpose is to plan, organize, and coordinate all comprehensive programs that actively enhances the lives of our citizens.

Parks & Recreation Overall Programming Goals & Objectives

Goals

  1. Provide programs that engage residents of all ages
  2. Ensure all areas of the City of Wilson are being served
  3. Provide quality programs that meet the needs of our residents
  4. Provide quality part-time and full-time staff to deliver programs to our residents
  5. Provide high quality & safe program environments for participants
  6. Ensure participants meet their goals for participating in programs
  7. Provide affordable programs to our residents

Objectives

  1. Serve the City of Wilson Residents of all ages: Infant/Preschool, Youth, Teens, Adults, Seniors, Special Populations
  2. Use GIS Dot Matrix Map of Program Participation Addresses to show all areas of City of Wilson are being served
  3. 80% of Program/Event Evaluations score slightly above average or better on “Program Quality”
  4. 80% of Program/Event Evaluations score slightly above average or better on “Staff Quality”
  5. Wilson Parks & Recreation Department will ensure program instructors have proper certifications & trainings (i.e. safety & first aid, proper officials training, appropriate fitness certifications, etc.)
  6. 90% of Program/Event Evaluations score slightly above average or better on “Participation Goal(s) Met”

75% of Program/Event Evaluations score slightly above average or better on “Fair Price”

Recreation Park Open Gym Free Play Hours:

Monday's, Wednesday's, & Friday's
10:00am - 12:00pm

Ages 12 & Under must b accompanied by someone 16 years and older
Photo ID Required
No Food or Drinks allowed in Gym

Recreation Park Miniature Train Hours:

Sunday’s Easter through Halloween

1:00pm - 5:00pm

Fee: $1 per rider (cash only)
