Our planning and community revitalization team provides staffing support to several boards and commissions, as well as partner organizations such as the Wilson Downtown Development Corporation and Wilson Downtown Properties, Inc.  

 

HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

The commission is responsible for protecting the integrity of designated historic properties and neighborhoods. Its duties include reviewing and approving exterior alteration, relocation or demolition plans involving designated landmarks and properties located within historic districts. This commission is staffed by our Preservation Planner, Dana Corson.

BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY BOARD

The board advocates for the city’s pedestrian and bicycling needs. It provides guidance on policies affecting pedestrians and bicycles, recommends priorities for related local, state and federal projects, and promotes walking and biking as alternative modes of transportation. This board is staffed by our  Senior Planner, Michelle Brown.

APPEARANCE COMMISSION

The commission provides leadership and guidance on programs that improve the city’s appearance. It promotes beautification initiatives and participates in community design projects with public and private organizations. This board is staffed by our Planning & Community Development Manager, John Morck.

REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

The commission is made up of our City Council. It oversees blighted areas that exist within the City of Wilson and that redevelopment of such areas is necessary in the interest of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare of the residents of Wilson.
