Area Plans
An area plan is intended to give detailed information and solutions to guide future developmental and physical characteristics of a specific defined area. The US Highway 301 Corridor Revitalization Strategy , the Barton Area – Northwest – Old Wilson neighborhood plan, the Center City Choice neighborhood plan, and the Downtown Strategic plan have all been identified as area plans.
US Highway 301 Corridor Revitalization Strategy
The goal of this project is to uncover the true potential of the Highway 301 corridor and surrounding neighborhoods through an active, iterative and collaborative process to inform a smart and strategic five-year reinvestment strategy. This plan was adopted on January 15, 2020.

Barton area - Northwest - Old Wilson Neighborhood Plan
The purpose of the Barton area – Northwest – Old Wilson (BNO) Plan is to provide recommendations on how to improve quality of life, strengthen the neighborhood, support community health, and reverse negative trends in the BNO neighborhood. The BNO Plan provides direction and guidance to the City of Wilson and to the community on future development, community programs, and improvements that are tailored to the specific needs of the community. This plan was adopted in March 2012.

Center City Choice Neighborhood Plan
The Center City Neighborhood Transformation Plan is the road map to reinvigorate a neighborhood where businesses will grow, students excel and that streets are walkable and safe. It will be a place families and individuals will be proud to call home. This plan was adopted on July 15, 2014.

Downtown Strategic Plan
The Wilson downtown development commission created this 5 year strategic action plan. This document identifies goals, strategies and objectives intended to create and promote a vibrant, innovative and sustainable downtown. This plan was adopted in the fiscal year 2014-2015.
