Downtown Social District

In an effort to increase economic activity and vibrancy in the Historic Downtown Wilson, City Council adopted an ordinance allowing the creation of a Downtown Social District in June 2022. The Social District began operation on October 26, 2022 at 11:00 am. Social District beverages can be enjoyed each day between 11:00 am - 11:00 pm.

 

Social District beverages can be purchased at the following locations (updated: 10/9/24):

  • Bill's Grill
  • Larema Coffee House
  • Casita Brewing Company
  • Downtown Public House
  • Ice & Fuel
  • The Porch at Iconostar Art
  • Ruckus and Redemption
  • The Hub
  • The Cardinal

 

  • How can I tell if a business is participating in the Downtown Social District?

    Participation in the Social District is optional for all businesses. Participating businesses will display signage indicating their level of participation. Stickers will be available for downtown businesses to help customers understand whether they are participating or not. The participation stickers are shown below for businesses selling Social District beverages, allowing Social District Beverages in their business, or not participating in the Social District.

  • What is a social district?

    A defined outdoor area in which a person may consume alcoholic beverages sold by an ABC permittee. In September 2021, the North Carolina General Assembly enacted legislation allowing municipalities to designate areas where open containers of alcoholic beverages can be consumed outside of the ABC permittee's premises including outdoors, sidewalks, and in businesses without ABC permits within the district. 

  • When does the Downtown Social District operate?

    Social District beverages can be sold and consumed 7 days a week between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. beginning Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

  • Where is the Downtown Social District?

    The Social District is located in the heart of Historic Downtown Wilson. The map below shows the boundaries of the District. Social District beverages may be purchased and consumed within the boundaries of the District or in participating businesses with an entrance contiguous with the District.
