Wayfinding Signage

The city of Wilson newest wayfinding signage is underway. After several years of behind-the-scenes work as staffers developed a plan, secured funding and negotiated with state officials on design, the first round of signs was installed in late January.

By the spring, there should be 40 corridor signs, 14 downtown signs, four signs at the gateway to the city and 12 signs marking downtown public parking lots. The city allocated $337,000 for the signs while the Wilson County Tourism Development Authority contributed $100,000 on top of a U.S. Department of Agriculture rural business development grant for $199,000.

The new signage design reflects the community’s values and identity, and exhibits a cohesive design that in the simplest way, directs residents and visitors to their destination.
