WYC Membership Means Something

While membership in the council is free, being a member of the Wilson Youth Council is earned. The community depends upon our teens volunteering. To be a member-means something. It’s not just another item to list on your college application or resume. The members work hard and take pride in their organization. To remain active in the council – members must participate, attend meetings regularly and volunteer at least 10 hours per semester. We hold our standards high and expect our members to reach higher!

Benefits of WYC Membership

The Wilson Youth Council focuses on leadership development by serving the community.

Service, Community and Volunteerism are at the core of all we do.
College applications most often require community service.
College scholarships are given at a higher rate to students that volunteer in their community.
Members learn leadership and development decision making skills.
Members hold elected positions and lead planning meetings
Teens volunteer at annual community events.
Active members attend NC State Youth Council Conferences.
WYC averages about 25 service projects per year.
Teens research and plan their own community service projects.

WYC - An Award Winning State Council

The WYC has received a state level award from the Governor’s Youth Advocacy & Involvement Office every year since 2008. Out of approximately 25 councils in the state-wide network, WYC has been recognized for community service, leadership development and membership growth. WYC was recognized as the “Most Outstanding Youth Council” in 2024, 2018, 2015, 2014, 2011 and 2008.
